The San Francisco 49ers jersey that was worn by Colin Kaepernick on his NFL debut on Oct. 2th 2011 sold for $128,000. Auction house, Julien’s Auctions, claims that this makes Kaepernick’s jersey the most expensive NFL jersey ever sold at auction.
Born November 3rd 1987 in Wisconsin, Colin Rand Kaepernick is an American civil rights activist and football quarterback. He played a total of 6 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He famously knelt during the national anthem at the start of NFL games as a way of protesting against police brutality and racial inequality in the United States.
According to TMZ, Kaepernick had signed the back of the jersey with the message “2011 game worn rookie jersey” and gave it as a Christmas gift to the wife of a family friend and reporter, Aaron Prince, who then auctioned the jersey in 2019. Kaepernick is worth $20 million, perhaps he could buy it back again?
It should be noted, you can buy a replica jersey online for around $25.
